How to Use This Calculator

Convert any hourly rate into an annual salary with a full UK tax breakdown. Useful for contractors, freelancers, agency workers, or anyone paid by the hour who wants to understand their equivalent annual income.

  1. Enter your hourly rate — your pay per hour before tax.
  2. Enter your hours per week — the calculator assumes 52 weeks to calculate your annual gross salary.
  3. Select your region — England/Northern Ireland, Wales, or Scotland. Scottish income tax rates differ from the rest of the UK.

Results update as you type. The annual salary and full tax breakdown appear instantly in the results panel.

What the Calculator Shows

  • Annual gross salary — your hourly rate × hours per week × 52.
  • Income tax — calculated using the correct bands for your region.
  • National Insurance — Class 1 employee NI at current 2025/26 rates.
  • Net take-home — your annual and monthly pay after all deductions.

When This Is Useful

  • Comparing a contract rate to a salaried role — a £25/hour contract role at 37.5 hours a week is £48,750 gross per year. See what that nets out at versus a salaried offer.
  • Agency or zero-hours workers — understand your equivalent annual income and tax position based on your typical weekly hours.
  • Checking the National Living Wage — verify how the minimum wage translates to annual salary and take-home at different hours.
  • Freelancers quoting day rates — work backwards from a desired annual take-home to set a day or hourly rate that achieves it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is annual salary calculated from hourly rate?

Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × 52. So £15/hour at 37.5 hours per week = £29,250 gross per year.

Does this include holiday pay?

The calculator multiplies by 52 weeks, which includes holiday weeks. If you don't get paid holiday (e.g. you're a casual or zero-hours worker), multiply by your actual paid weeks instead.

Is this the same as a salary calculator?

Yes — once the hourly rate is converted to an annual figure, the tax calculation is identical to the main salary calculator. The same income tax bands and NI thresholds apply.

What about self-employment or contractor income?

This calculator models PAYE employment tax. If you're self-employed or operating via a limited company, your tax position will differ — you'll pay Class 4 NI instead of Class 1, and corporation tax applies for limited companies.
